Riding bikes has been a daily activity since the formative years of Matt’s life. At first it took shape in the hills along the Russian River in West Sonoma County where he and childhood friends built bike tracks under the redwood canopy. Trail building became a way to connect with friends and to stretch independence in a positive way later becoming a summer job maintaining trails at the infamous Bohemian Grove.

On the most normal days, you can find Matt tucked into a banked turn a few miles from his home in Truckee chasing shadows of memories channeling the stoke. To Matt, Mountain Biking can feel like an out-of-body dream or a painful and haunting cave testing everything about you. You can ride for fitness, transportation, for the resolve, the open air, but he bets you’ll find the best part is the time you spend riding with friends and working the trail.

Matt moved to Sugar Bowl in 1997 to go his own way and for the past 20 years he has led creative project teams out of Truckee for a variety of national business entities and local non-profits. Matt also raced all types of bicycles across the sky for the Marcpro/Strava team before hanging his hat in 2013 when the blessings of fatherhood first arrived.

In 2020 Matt founded the Truckee Dirt Union, a passionate group of local mountain bike riders, trail advocates, and trail builders who are working to cultivate positive outcomes for mountain biking in Truckee.

Matt is an engaging and relatable Truckee business owner, father, passionate athlete, yogi, and a driven volunteer steward of public lands.

If you see Matt out on the trails call him out and give him a high five. ⚡︎
